I love watching the Olympics. Doesn’t matter if it’s winter or summer – I’m always inspired by athletes.
The Olympics in Rio 2016, can now be live streamed anytime, anywhere. Quite remarkable.
Olympic athletes are the best of the best. To even qualify to be a part of their countries team – you are already the best. It’s a great achievement. In my eyes, every Olympian is already a winner.
I know those competing have a different opinion, as they are there for the “prize”, and rightly so, nonetheless to have persevered to make it that far – I honour them all.
There’s the Mom with 3 kids, who has trained for years and is running the marathon … http://www.100huntley.com/watch?id=223732&title=gearing-up-for-rio-2016-olympics–krista-duchene
The swimmers, some coming back from injuries …
In every venue, “trying to win a spot in the finals” …
Yes, the Olympics are my favourite.
The Bible gives us an analogy of a runner competing.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize”. 1 Corinthians 9:24
The next verse gives us instructions on how to win …
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us …” Hebrews 12:1
The Olympics inspire me to run my race. Not yours or my friends – but my own – and run hard towards the prize of heaven – to hear Jesus say “well done”.
One day everyone will give an account of their lives … whew, makes you want to run your race well doesn’t it?
Dear Heavenly Father, help me to run my own race. You made me just the way I am and you were happy with your creation. May I not waste any laps on my run. I run with patience today towards my prize – eternity with You.
