CHARIOTS OF FIRE

The movie “Chariots of Fire” tells the story of a runner who competed in the 1924 Olympics.

We learn so much from those who have gone before us; especially those who have walked with God and leave us a great example to follow.

Eric Liddell said, “I believe God made me for a purpose. He made me fast and when I run, I feel His pleasure”.

I love the way he expressed his heart, to “feel His pleasure”.

He went on to say:

“I want to compare faith to running in a race. It’s hard. It requires concentration of will and energy of soul. Everyone runs in her own way, or his own way. And where does the power come from to see the race to its end? From within. Jesus said, “Behold, the Kingdom of God is within you. If with all your hearts, you truly seek me, you shall ever surely find me”. (Luke 17:21)

Faith is like running in a race.

He nailed it.

Sometimes our “race” is hard, complicated, wearisome. To keep going requires every bit of strength we can muster. Eric talks about where supernatural strength comes from – within – from God. And he is right.

  • Keeping our eyes on the one who made us
  • Believing God will freely give us what we need to keep “in the race”.

“But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever bright unto the perfect day”. (Proverbs 4:18)

“Dear Heavenly Father, I would love to feel your pleasure everyday. Lead me Lord. May the path I’m on, be the one you want me to travel. I surrender my will to you. I will keep my eyes on you – you are strength indeed”.
