A “VALENTINE” KIND OF LOVE
Valentine’s Day is all about love. However, perhaps you are reading this and your love has not come into view … or your love is gone … as a result you don’t want to read about Valentine’s Day.
I decided not to write about a romantic kind of love, but love of another kind. Let me tell you about my husband’s grandmother and how she loved.
I didn’t meet her until she was in her 70’s. Here is my recollection.
She smiled, giggled and love twinkled from her eyes.
When you talked to her – she listened.
She hugged you.
You felt special around her.
She treated you like there was only you.
She was one-of-a-kind.
One day, as she never wanted to be a bother, this sweet Grandma neglected to mention to her daughter she had dropped a pair of scissors and cut her foot. She was a diabetic and that’s not good.
Sadly, infection set in and she had her leg amputated below her knee. When I went to see her after surgery, I was a bit surprised.
She smiled, giggled, with love twinkling from her eyes.
From her wheelchair, with a stump for a leg, she cupped my face in her hands and whispered “your beautiful, thanks for coming”.
I’ll never forget her. She knew how to love. She served her Saviour Jesus, and simply became like Him.
And that dear reader – is a Valentine’s Day kind of love.
“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love”. (1 Corinthians 13:13)
“Dear Heavenly Father, help me to love others as this Grandma did. She lived to be a blessing in spite of her hardships. Truly she learned to love like you”.
