Fort Mac Burning – May 2016
If you live in North America, chances are you have watched footage of the wild fires burning in the northern oil town of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada.
Fort Mac looked like something out of the movies. An apocalypse.
A town of 80,000; running for cover.
Thousands of vehicles going north to oil camps and south to towns, and then incredibly, even camps caught fire. It was unbelievable to watch.
Much like 9/11, a story like this has many heroes. While the town’s people escape the catastrophe, the first responders stay and fight on and on and on … God bless these heroic men and women.
Nonetheless, as with any tragedy, the coverage dwindles and the news teams leave. All that is left are the bewildered residents, “where do we go from here?”
Life as we know it, is so temporal – it appears for a little while – and then vanishes away.
The Bible says it like this:
“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone”. James 4:14
When my Grandfather turned 80, I asked him, “Granda you’re 80 today, I’d love to know your thoughts?” He said, “my dear, life has gone by so fast”. He hesitated and before saying anything else, looked away, obviously deep in thought, “I can’t believe how quickly my life has gone”.
Yes, life is fast and fragile. Be it fires in Fort Mac, sicknesses, accidents and a myriad of unforeseen events threatening our day-to-day living, life is fleeting.
Dear reader, only one person can make sense of it all; the Lord Jesus. When our hope is in the eternal – we can make it through all the temporal.
One day, all will be well – as I know for sure, Jesus is coming.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17
Dear Heavenly Father, yes, one day you will make everything right again. That day is coming and we are waiting for that day. Even so come Lord Jesus!
